The Role of Literature in Boosting EFL University Students’ Critical Thinking: Case of First-year Students in Algeria

The integration of critical thinking within the learning process is considered a crucial indicator education’s quality. Nevertheless, with reforms introduced in higher education, less importance was given to this skill; consequently, most Algerian EFL learners cannot think critically and creatively. To fill gap, study suggests using literature as bridge between teaching foreign language enhancement learners’ abilities. research also proposes strategies approaches motivate students use their skills class. end, researcher raised following question: How do we enhance abilities while literature? And what adopt class? adopted semi-structured interviews teachers classroom observations instruments collect necessary data. participants are university first-year different genders from department English at University Dr. Moulay Tahar, Saida (Algeria). Obtained results show positive feedback towards used by teacher-researcher It revealed that aware effectiveness when improve proficiency This recommended high order strategy literature.
